Three-dimensional music

What might we mean by this? How can one write a piece in which the listener’s attention is drawn to spatial features and not only to the sounds? A simple way of doing this is just to ask the performers to walk around, but other possibilities arise which lead to more interactive performances, i.e. the listener can walk around the performers.

Another approach to ‘three-dimensional’ music is to generate musical content by defining a path through a three-dimensional object – as with the 2-D patterns described under Tessellations.
